Pressed cane are preformed sheets which is secured by the binder. The binder is a thick cane which runs around the perimeter to secure the sheet of preformed cane.
Just the lower caned needed to be replace. Matched stain color to upper cane.
Starting a new woven cane chair. These take longer than the pressed cane. This is because, unlike the pre-woven sheets, one has to manually weave the pattern.
This chair was from around the 70's from the Philippians, from what I was told. This one took longer than most. Some late nights. Client was very pleased, since she wanted it repaired and keep it in the family. Plus they don't make them like that anymore!
Originally, there was 5 chairs, now there is only 3. They were bought 20 or so years ago, and finally the cane went out. Got them repaired and looking good for another 20 years.
Pressed cane. The top one on the right didn't need repair. This is what is looked like before matching.
Starting a new pattern on a round seat. Much like a square seat, but a little tricky figuring out the layout.
This one is pretty straight forward. This one is a close up of the, "Set of Three", pictured above.
